Version 1

CO2-reduced steel manufacturing made in North America.

Steel is a core component in vehicle construction – and its production is highly energy intensive. Thus, it is one part in the value chain of a vehicle where sustainable ideas are particularly in demand.

Big River Steel has managed to save over 70% of CO2 compared to high steel furnaces by using green energy in manufacturing and established a closed loop with the steel sheet offcuts resulting from the part cutting process. The possibilities this offers for the future of vehicle manufacturing are enormous.

And the company is planning even further steps: they are making great efforts in increasing the amount of locally produced solar power in their energy supplies.

Additionally, the Big River Steel mill became the first LEED certified steel production facility in the world, which approves their environmental and energy efficiency performance.
